BOARD MEMBER FISHING BIOS

Bill Moffitt- I began to fly fish when I moved to Downingtown back in 1996.  A good friend of mine knew Jack Larkin well and my first experience was on the Lower Toby with Jack.  It was a perfect first experience fly fishing on a great trout stream.  After a brief lesson on entomology and shot of Bushmills, we stripped streamers along the bottom and hit three beautiful rainbows before lunch.  Afterwards I had some luck nymphing, but it wasn't until we hit the afternoon hatch that I truly got hooked on the sport.  I still have yet to experience anything like this hatch.  Thank God for Jack's instructions on when to lift the rod or I would have missed three quarters of the hits.   Since then, I've made good use of the fly fishing only stretch of the Brandywine along the Struble trail that runs down the hill from my home.  Every year over the past ten years except for one, I've been able to fish the last day of December and the first day of January; no better way to end a year or begin a new one  (except perhaps the full submersion in Valley Stream this past New Years day which made for a very cold walk back to the truck).  I know most of the streams around Chester County pretty well especially the Brandywine, French Creek and the Octorora. One of my favorite streams in Pennsylvania is Spruce Creek.  I usually get out there a few times a year to fish the Rod & Gun Club water.  Over the past 11 years I have volunteered and been a contestant in the "On -The-Fly Tournament" at Wayne Harpsters Family farm on Spruce Creek which benefits the State College Youth Service Bureau.  I plan to win the tournament next year.  As far as memorable waters that I've fished, my favorites have been The Yellowstone, Elk Creek in Erie for Steelheads, Belize for Bonefish and Jacks, Isla Mirada for Sailfish (light tackle) and a little brownie caught on a stream outside of Dublin, Ireland.
